wars, Sometimes an epitome of greatness but mostly, Giant massacares to conquer or control land. And when a land gifted with so much natural resources and whealth like India is concerned than wars are inevitible. And so it is obvious tha our country has seen a ton of conflicts. Every empire wanted to have thier hold on the "Sone ki Chidiya" whether the foreign invaders or the Indian empires and that is why they collide. Every war has major effect on People, Culture, And in shaping History. But some have a completely altering effect and change the course of history drastically than others. And we are going to learn about 5 such wars today, The wars that significantly changed Indian history. Let's begin.

1. 2nd Battle of Tarain:(1192)

- Fought between the Ghurids led by Mu'iZZ ad-din Muhammad Ghori, And the     Chahamanas and their allies who were led by Chahamana king Prithviraj Chauhan.

- The battle took place near Tarain( modern day Taraori, Haryana).

- In the 1st battle of Tarain(1191), Prithviraj defeated the Ghurids and captured Muhammad    Ghori but relesed him eventually as in accordance with the Rajput moral rights. (why!!)

- Ghori returned one year later and avenged his defeat by deafeating the Chahamanas in the    2nd battle and capturing Prithviraj.

How it changed History:
By defeating Prithviraj, Ghori became successful in invading India and establishing his rule, Which laid foundation of the Delhi Sultanate. This started the foreign invader rule in the country making Prithviraj Chauhan the last Indian king to rule Delhi.

2. The Anglo-Indian Wars:

Now, I could have easily ranked all of these wars seperately but then the list have mostly been about the Britishers and we are already sick hearing about them and also, It would have made the list sooo.. long! And if we see, Then all of these battles ultimately lead to the strenthening and expanding of the British empire. So I decided to rank them together.

- Fought between the British East India Company and different Indian empires like the       Mughal empire, The Mysore Kingdom, Maratha empire, Sikh empire, Nawabs of Bengal,     etc.

- The Battle of Plassey, And Battle of Buxar can be considered as the 2 most prominant     Anglo-Indian battles as they helped in concreating the British Rule in the country.

        ( Battle of Plassey-1757.)

         ( Battle of Buxar-1764.)

- The Anglo-Maratha wars(1775-1818), The Anglo-Sikh wars(1845-1849), The Anglo-     Mysore wars(1766-1799) were some of the other major battles of the Anglo-Indian     Conflict.

How it changed History:

Cumalatively winning all of the Ango-Indian battles, The British East India Company reigned supreme in the Indian Subcontinent which ultimately established the Colonial Rule in India.

3. Battle of Hydaspes:(326 BC)

- The forces of Macedonia under Alexander the Great collided with the army of King Porus    on the banks of the Jhelum river (called as Hydaspes by the Ancient Greeks) in the region    of Punjab of the Indian Subcontinent.

- Alexander reigned supreme in the battle defeating King Porus. This resulted in the     Alexandrian empire absorbing large areas of Punjab.

- After the battle, When Alexander asked King Porus that how he should treat him, King     Porus gave the historic reply that "Treat me as a King would treat another King" which     impressed Alexander after which he allowed King Porus to retain his land.

How it changed History:
Although victorious, It was the most costly battle faced by the Macedonians which catapulted the already increasing distress in the exhausted army. Hence, Alexander had no option but to return back to the west despite reaching the boundaries of the Nanda empire which ruled India then. If this may have not been the case, then Alexander would have easily acquired mainand India.
                                                    ( Alexander The Great.)

                                                            ( King Porus.)

4. 1st Battle of Panipat:(21st April, 1526.)

- The collision of the invading forces of Babur with Ibrahim Lodi of the Lodi Dynasty who    at that time was the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate.

- It took place in the northern Indain region of Panipat (In present day Haryana).

- The Lodi's using swords and shields for battle had never faced an army which used     weapons like hand canons and gunpowder bombs which Babur's army was the first to use.   As a result, Babur was victorious in the battle and the Delhi sultanate faced a Massive     defeat.

How it changed History:
Baburs victory in the battle resulted in the end of the Lodi Dynasty and falling of the Delhi Sultanate which ruled india for 320 years. Winning led to Babur establishing the Mughal empire which ruled India for another 331 years.

( one foreigner defeats another foreigner and rules a foreign contry. Wow!)
                                                               ( Babur.)

Some of these battles you may know about, But this last one I am pretty sure is not known to most of us.

5. The Mongol Invasions of India:

- The Mongol empire had launched several invasions into the Indian subcontinent for about    100 years.

- Trying to expand the Mongol empire in India, They fought several battles with the rulers     of the Delhi Sultanate.

- Alauddin khilji of the Khilji Dynasty ruled the Delhi Sultanate at the time and faced the     Mongols many times. The battle of Jaran-Manjur, Siege of Sehwan, Battle of Killi, siege of   Delhi, Battle of Amroha and Ravi were the major battles fought between Alauddin Khilji   and his Generals versus the Mongols.

How it changed History:
The Delhi Sultnate, Especially under Alauddin Khilji's reign was successful in defeating the Mongol invaders many times which led to the failure of the Mongols to invade the Indian Subcontinent which Ultimately and Thankfully resulted in India not being a part of the Mongol empire. Imagine if the Mongols would have been successfull.
( Alauddin Khilji, Ruler of the Delhi Sultante.)

( Map of the Mongol Empire, Largest empire in the world.)

Wars happened, wars are happening, And wars will happen in the future. But these wars take away a very priceless thing as a cost which is "LIFE" either of those who are surving their master or country or of the civilians and the normal people who have nothing to do with these wars. People die and families suffer just for someone's ego to conquer lands and this only leads towards the decline of humanity..!
